JOHN LENNON: THE NEW YORK YEARS
JOHN LENNON: THE NEW YORK YEARS 1971 – 1980
The Beatles Story down at Liverpools Albert Dock have a brilliant new exhibition documenting John Lennon’s later years spent in New York between 1971 – 1980.
When John Lennon and Yoko Ono went to live in New York in 1971, they met a well known rock photographer called Bob Gruen, they became friend and neighbours and for nine years he was his personal photographer. This fantastically insightful exhibition helps to bring these New York Years to life.
Filled with photos and reflections by his photographer on the circumstances surrounding the photos such as John’s relationship with Yoko, the role of the band Elephant’s Memory, how he dealt with fame, his first days with his son Sean, and how he spiralled downward on alcohol fuelled binges. It is a true behind-the-scenes look at Lennon as a performer, a legend, and a person.
